for a few hours this morning, we had a moat completely surrounding our house...and it began coming up on our patio. fortunately, it started snowing soon after this and most of it froze...but at its highest, it was 2 feet away from our back door. we are very thankful today, because--like most of our area--we do not have flood insurance! (anyone know a good policy?!--kidding. sort of.)

Yikes! We do have an extraordinary amount of water right now, what with the crazy downpour last night and the snowmelt from the last storm. Makes me glad we live on a hill, so the water can drain away. The bottom of our field is a pond though - we even had some geese stop by yesterday! So glad it stopped before it came in your house!
weird night - we had 2am snow and a powerline broke right outside our house. Then we had three transformers blow right in a row (talk about LOUD!!!) - so no power for several hours. Then the workman can in two trucks to pick up the power line and re-install it. They were talking and yelling until at least 3:30am. I think we need a nap!!
big WHEW! on being saved from that one! I think after the whole New Orleans fiasco, I'm of the opinion that flood insurance is kind of worthless anyway :).
Happy 2009!
Wow Annaliese! Close call. What a strange night. Glad to know everything was okay. We're praying that the precip. slows this week since a work crew is tearing up our kitchen floors and such.. traipsing in mud is icky.
Oh my goodness! Thank goodness for a freeze. Do you have sandbags? Rain, rain, stay away!
Yikers!
Are you going to have a sand party!
In our neck of the woods, Rock Creek is scary and took one of our trees on our lower property!
i can relate to that! thank you God for the snow! my boys were out saturday digging a huge ditch to run pipe out to the road - we don't want that again!
Few days late on this one. Goodness, I thought maybe that one house you were talking about on the road to yours would flood, but didn't think you'd have problems. It was a very wet night.
